A day and night in River Lögde!

My daughter Angelica and I went for area yearly trip to River Lögde in Västerbotten here in Sweden. We had not planed anything and had three rivers to choose but after visiting the fishing tackle shop at Naturkompaniet in Övik we decided to go to River Lögde. We started to fish in Norrfors and had a pull on the fly there but no more so we changed pools and tried some different pools before we felt that the sandman had put all his sand in our eyes and we had to sleep. In the morning there was raining for two hours then the sun broke through the colds and it got hot as hell but we fished for a couple of hours before we packed down our rods and went home again. Both Angelica and I think Lögde is a real nice river and we will go back there in a couple of weeks to do some Sea trout fishing.

Swedish Sport Fishing Fair 2013

Had a great time at the Swedish Sport Fishing Fair with my buddies Nicklaus Bauer, Peter Bratt, Nicklas Holmér, Daniel "the beard" Bergman, Steffen "mr Pink" Jensen, Emma, Maria and Mattias Drugge from Vision/Fly-Dressing. We also won the prize for best stand with a cosy living room full of are new products were the visitors could sit down and have rest and talk fly fishing products!

On friday there was a new visitor record and we had much to do in the Vision stand. I had many people visiting my tying table and it was fun to show them my tying technic.

Saturday was just crazy with a full house from the gates opened up and we had a great time meet and greet fishermens and womes from all over the country.

I had to go home on sunday morning because my health is not the best but I think it will be a good day and hopefully a new visitor record for sunday also!

Most also say thanks to Bosse from Catch & Relax and Anders and the kids from the the school in Älvdalen for doing a great job! Also a big thanks to Marcus from Hökensås for the Tidaholms punsch!

The Synthetic GP on Tie TV

After a time of testing diffrent materials to make a 100% synthetic fly pattern for Salmon, Sea trouts (Sea run browns) and Steelhead I came up with the idea of the Synthetic GP made of Craft Fur. It's quit difficult to find a synthetic substitute to repalce the fur and feathers and I have been using Craft Fur before as wing material on my bigger tube flies and they have been catching fish for me since 2004. The original GP or diffrent versions with dyed tippet feathers have worked well for me especial for Sea trout fishing in the spring here in Scandinavia but its not the easiest fly to tie and not that easy to the get the "right" look on the fly or get it to swimm as it should. The synthehic version is easy to tie and can be made in lot of diffrent colours. The orange/red (were I mix the Craft Fur fibers) fl red, all white version that   You can watch me tie the GP on Tie TV on you tube and see how its done. It's just in Swedish but you will sure understand how to tie just by watching the video!

First Wing: Red Bucktail, 2 strands each of Red and Purple Crystal Flash.

Bucktruder... Back in Bucktail!

WGW

This pattern is a mix between a classic bucktail tube/waddington and a Intruder style of fly that I have mixed toghter and they are not so difficult to tie either. Have been fishing round tyed bucktails on Eumer Tear Drop Tubes for some years now and have had very good results on this style of flies. The secret to get the flies to realy move is to use the soft tips of the bucktail and not the stiffer hair further down on the tail, they suit better for big Pike flies. To get the right volym I always tie in the hair facing forward then fold it backwards. When doing this the fly will gain volym and the wing will not be laying flat againts the tube or shank and this will make the fly looks like it "fly's" trough the water and hold the volume both in slow and fast currents! This pattern will also be featured in one episode of Tie TV later this year but then in a Silver Wilkinson version so keep your eyes open!

I tie this flies on plastic, different weighted tubes and waddington shanks with a trailer hook to get an articulated fly.

Pattern recepie: WGW (Willy Gunns Wife)

Trailer Hook: Strike Wire 0.41mm or other braided line of your choice!

Body: 1/2 Silver Flat Braid 1/2 Silver Dubbing in a dubbing loop.

Wing: Under wing: Yellow and Hot Orange Bucktail tied in around the tube or shank (tied in facing forward then folded back) 2-3 strands of Pink Mirror Flash.
Over wing: Hot Pink or Fuchsia Bucktail tied in the same way as the under wing.
(I divide the wing into to two parts as it can be difficult to fold back the wing if there to much to tie in at once)

Hackle: Hot Pink or Fuchsia Schlappen or Soft Hackle tied in as a collar.

Topping: 6 to 10 Yellow dyed Amherst Pheasant fibers tied in around the fly.

Eyes: Yellow JC feathers or if you want a heavier fly use dumbshell eyes

Head: Silver Monster Cone on the tube version and Fl Pink 8/0 Textreme tread on the Waddington version.

It's easy to "translate" other patterns to a Bucktruder, just change the colours in the recipe to the colours of your favourite fly!

Skagit on Fly TV

On thuesday and wednesday Mattias Drugge and I visited River Nyköpings to shoot a 20min long episode of Fly TV with Johan and Pontus from Kanalgratis. With just -3c in the air and 0,6c in the water I can say it was quite cold standing in the river all day. The episode will be on kanalgratis site on You Tube and I will put the link here on the blog.

And last but not lest we want to thank Conny and all River Nyköpings local fishermens that didn't get so upset at us when we occupied some pools to get good pictures!

Tie TV - No ties just nice flies!

I have now made two new fly tying films for Tie TV at Kanalgratis studion in Stockholm. Also the Vision/Fly Dressing guys Niklaus Bauer, Daniel Bergman and Mattias Drugge made a couple of flies each. I think my flies worked out quite well and the other boys patterns looked amazing! So look out for the first patterns on You Tube and Tie TV
